A quinazolinone alkaloid anticoccidial with potential antineoplastic activity. Halofuginone hydrobromide inhibits type I collagen synthesis and matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP-2) gene expression, which results in the suppression of angiogenesis, tumor stromal cell development, and tumor cell growth.
