NCI Thesaurus | doxorubicin HCl liposome
A liposome-encapsulated form of the hydrochloride salt of the anthracycline antineoplastic antibiotic doxorubicin. Liposomal delivery of doxorubicin HCL improves drug penetration into tumors and decreases drug clearance, thereby increasing the duration of therapeutic drug effects. Doxorubicin intercalates into DNA and interacts with topoisomerase II, consequently inhibiting DNA replication and repair and RNA and protein synthesis. This agent also produces toxic free-radical intermediates and interacts with cell membrane lipids causing lipid peroxidation. NCI Thesaurus | doxorubicin HCl liposome
